I have a 6th sense

Most of my clients and I have a problem in common…too much paper clutter!  Every day your mailbox (you know, the one you can physically touch) fills with bills or receipts, you attend that meeting and you aren’t quite sure if you will ever need the meeting agenda but…oh and what about those receipts you need to file for tax time. Ugh!  My personal “6th Sense’ is that I see stacks of paper.everywhere.  They’re hidden in your drawers, in cabinets, & closets but there are plenty more that everyone can see.  They are on your desk, your dining room table, and yes, even the nightstand!

So, what’s a person to do when lighting and tossing a match is prohibited in most offices?  Electronic filing, that’s what!  Take all of those papers put them in your fancy little scanner and voila!  They are off to the filing heavens to be tracked down at a later date.  The physical copy shredded (and recycled of course).

But does this organizing mecca truly exist?  Is it really that simple?  Just scan it and it gets filed into the appropriate area and then you can find it again?  Well…yes and no.

Who hasn’t fallen in love with the NeatDesk receipt scanner with their incredible marketing skills and Apple-esque beautiful design?  I know I have!

While traveling for business I have been known to sit on the tarmac, Skymall in hand and drool over that puppy.  Oh all the things I could organize with it.  My expense reports would be a dream!  Then I read the Amazon reviews for it and my dream bubble deflated a bit.

But my dreams of simple scanning and organizing are not shattered, I have found an alternative with an equally hefty price tag…the Fujitsu ScanSnap seems to have won the hearts of many paper-phobes that have gone before me. It may not be as beautiful as the NeatDesk but from what I can tell, the functionality of the hardware and the software put competition to shame and I will take function over form any day.

With an impressive 4.5 stars based on 429 reviews on Amazon, I know what I’m hoping to see under the Christmas tree this year! Until then, I will try not to strike any matches…
